What is Siri AI in iOS 27?
Siri AI is Apple’s new version of Siri powered by the next generation of Apple Intelligence. Apple describes it as a more conversational assistant with personal context understanding, onscreen awareness, broader world knowledge and more systemwide app actions.
In practice, Siri AI can search across information in supported apps such as Mail, Messages, Photos and Calendar, answer questions about what is currently on the screen, take actions across apps, help draft or rewrite text, and continue conversations in a dedicated Siri app. Apple also brings Siri into Camera through a Siri mode that can understand what the camera is viewing and suggest relevant actions.
The important point for troubleshooting is that Siri AI is not simply the old Siri with a different animation. It is a separate beta experience with additional hardware, language and region requirements beyond merely being able to install iOS 27.

Is there a Siri AI waitlist on iOS 27?
Apple does not currently document a Siri AI waitlist. Apple’s official iOS 27 instructions tell eligible users to open Settings, tap Siri, then choose Try Siri AI (Beta). There is no published step that asks users to join a queue or wait for an approval email.
This matters because older Apple Intelligence rollout language or third-party reporting can make a missing feature look like a server-side waitlist. For Siri AI on iOS 27, the first troubleshooting step should instead be to verify the eligibility rules Apple actually lists.
If “Try Siri AI (Beta)” is missing: do not assume you are waiting for a hidden queue. Check the iPhone model, iOS version, Siri and device language, region restrictions, Apple Intelligence eligibility and age requirements first.

Which iPhones support Siri AI?
Siri AI requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone. Apple currently lists:
- iPhone 15 Pro
- iPhone 15 Pro Max
- iPhone 16 models or later
- iPhone Air
The phone must also be running iOS 27 or later. Installing iOS 27 on an older compatible iPhone does not add the neural hardware required for Apple Intelligence or Siri AI.
This is one of the most common sources of confusion because iOS compatibility and Siri AI compatibility are not the same list. An iPhone can receive iOS 27 and still be too old for Siri AI.

Why Siri AI is missing on iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus
The standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are not on Apple’s Siri AI eligibility list. Within the iPhone 15 generation, only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max qualify.
So if an iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Plus updates successfully to iOS 27 but the new Siri AI option never appears, that is expected behavior rather than a failed update.
| Model | Siri AI on iOS 27? |
|---|---|
| iPhone 15 | No |
| iPhone 15 Plus | No |
| iPhone 15 Pro | Yes, subject to language and region rules |
| iPhone 15 Pro Max | Yes, subject to language and region rules |
Siri AI launches in English first
The language rule is narrower for Siri AI than for Apple Intelligence generally. Apple Intelligence already supports a broader list of languages, but Siri AI launches in English first.
Apple says Siri AI support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish is coming in October 2026. Until that expansion arrives, a user can have other Apple Intelligence features working in a supported non-English language while the Siri AI beta option is still unavailable.
Apple’s current Siri AI requirements page says both the device language and Siri language should be set to English for the initial release.
- Check the iPhone language. The initial Siri AI release expects English.
- Check Siri language separately. A supported device language does not help if Siri itself is configured to an unsupported language.
- Return to Settings → Siri after changing language. Look again for Try Siri AI (Beta).

Siri AI is not initially available on iPhone in the EU
Apple says Siri AI is not initially available in the European Union on iOS, iPadOS or watchOS. This is specifically a platform restriction for the Siri AI launch, not a statement that every Apple Intelligence feature is unavailable in the EU.
That distinction is important. Apple says newer Apple Intelligence capabilities across apps can be available to EU users on supported devices, but Siri AI itself is withheld initially on iPhone and iPad.
Apple also says Siri AI is available in the EU on supported Macs running macOS 27 Golden Gate and on Vision Pro when the relevant language and account conditions are met. So a user could legitimately see Siri AI on a Mac but not on an iPhone using the same Apple Account.

China mainland has a separate availability restriction
Apple says Siri AI will not work in China mainland if the Apple Account region is set to mainland China. Apple’s broader Apple Intelligence documentation also explains that supported devices purchased in China mainland currently face additional Apple Intelligence restrictions.
Because these rules involve both the physical region and the Apple Account region in some circumstances, simply changing Siri’s spoken language is not enough to bypass an account or regulatory restriction.
Apple says it is continuing to work through regulatory requirements. Until Apple changes the official availability rules, a missing Siri AI option in China mainland should not automatically be treated as an iOS installation problem.

How to turn on Siri AI in iOS 27
On an eligible iPhone, Apple documents a simple activation path:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Siri.
- If Siri is currently off, tap Turn on Siri.
- Tap Try Siri AI (Beta).
- Follow the onscreen instructions.
If Siri is already enabled, Apple says you can go directly to Settings → Siri → Try Siri AI (Beta).
After Siri AI is enabled, iOS 27 also provides a dedicated Siri app for ongoing conversations. This is another useful way to distinguish the new Siri AI experience from Siri Classic.
Activation steps: Apple iPhone User Guide and Turn on and activate Siri.
Siri Classic and Siri AI are different experiences
An iPhone can still have Siri working even when Siri AI is unavailable. Apple refers to the previous assistant experience as Siri Classic in its current iOS 27 documentation.
That means “Siri works” is not proof that Siri AI is enabled. If you do not see the newer conversational experience, dedicated Siri app, personal-context features or other Siri AI capabilities, check whether the phone is still using Siri Classic.
Apple also lets a user switch back. Its current support page says that if Siri AI is enabled but you prefer the previous version, you can turn Siri off, turn it on again, then choose Use Siri Classic.
| Area | Siri Classic | Siri AI |
|---|---|---|
| Basic voice assistant | Yes | Yes |
| Personal context across supported apps | More limited | Core feature |
| Onscreen awareness | No equivalent new experience | Yes |
| Broad world knowledge | More limited | Expanded |
| Dedicated Siri conversation app | No | Yes |
| Eligibility restrictions | Broader Siri availability | Apple Intelligence hardware, language and region rules |
Why Apple Intelligence can work while Siri AI is still missing
This is one of the easiest situations to misdiagnose. Apple Intelligence and Siri AI do not have identical availability rules.
Apple Intelligence in iOS 27 supports a broader set of languages, including Chinese, Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish and Vietnamese. Siri AI, by contrast, begins in English and expands to five additional languages in October.
Apple also allows many new Apple Intelligence features in the EU while withholding Siri AI initially from iOS and iPadOS there. So supported intelligence features can work while the Try Siri AI (Beta) option remains absent.
The correct question is therefore not just “Do I have Apple Intelligence?” It is “Do I meet the additional Siri AI requirements for this specific feature?”
Age and usage limits can also affect Siri AI
Apple’s September launch notes state that Siri AI is not available for users under 13. This is separate from hardware and regional eligibility.
Apple also says Siri AI is one of the Apple Intelligence features that can rely on server-side models and is therefore subject to daily usage limits. Those limits can vary according to the feature, request complexity, system demand, system policies and other factors.
A usage limit is different from the feature never appearing in Settings. If the Try Siri AI (Beta) option itself is missing, start with eligibility. If Siri AI is already enabled but some requests temporarily fail or become unavailable, usage limits become more relevant.
Apple says expanded access to server-side Apple Intelligence features will be available for a fee in the future, but it has not published one universal daily Siri AI request number in the sources reviewed for this article.

Why Siri AI may still not show after you update to iOS 27
| Possible cause | What it means |
|---|---|
| Unsupported iPhone | Your iPhone can run iOS 27 but does not meet Apple Intelligence hardware requirements. |
| iPhone 15 or 15 Plus | Only the 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max qualify within that generation. |
| Device language is not English | Siri AI launches in English first. |
| Siri language is not English | The initial beta requires the Siri language to be supported too. |
| You are using iPhone in the EU | Siri AI is not initially available on iOS in the EU. |
| China mainland restriction | Siri AI does not work there when the Apple Account region is mainland China, and broader Apple Intelligence restrictions can also apply. |
| User is under 13 | Apple says Siri AI is not available for users under 13. |
| Siri is off | Turn on Siri first, then look for Try Siri AI (Beta). |
| You are expecting a waitlist | Apple does not currently document one. Eligibility is the more useful thing to check. |
Fast troubleshooting checklist
- Confirm the iPhone model. You need iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max, iPhone 16 models or later, or iPhone Air.
- Confirm iOS 27 is installed.
- Set the iPhone device language to English for the initial Siri AI release.
- Set Siri language to English too.
- Open Settings → Siri. If Siri is off, turn it on.
- Look for Try Siri AI (Beta).
- If you are in the EU, remember Siri AI is not initially available on iPhone there.
- If you are in China mainland or use a mainland China Apple Account region, check Apple’s regional restrictions.
- Check the user’s age. Apple says Siri AI is unavailable under age 13.
- Do not wait for an undocumented queue. Apple’s current setup flow does not describe a Siri AI waitlist.
BeeVaults takeaway: if Siri AI is missing after iOS 27, the problem is usually eligibility rather than the update itself. A supported iPhone, English Siri and device language, and an allowed region are the key launch requirements. The most reliable signal is whether Settings → Siri → Try Siri AI (Beta) appears on the device.
