Where to look for GPT-6 Astra
ChatGPT has different experiences for conversation and delegated work. Work can produce files, carry out research, and complete tasks using the tools available to it. OpenAI’s Work getting-started guide begins by switching to Work. That is a useful place to begin this access check.
- Confirm your account. Open your profile and check the active account and workspace. A personal subscription and a workplace membership can lead to different settings.
- Switch to Work where available. Open a Work conversation before checking the model options described in this guide.
- Open the model or Power control. On supported Work interfaces, this is beneath the message box. Check Advanced if you need to inspect individual model choices.
- Look for Astra by name. Eligible accounts may show Astra Light, Astra Medium, or Astra Extra High. The labels and choices can vary during rollout.

What your plan tells you about access
A subscription name is only part of the answer. Check the current plan guidance alongside the options available in your account.
| Account or plan | What the documentation establishes |
|---|---|
| Plus and Standard Business | OpenAI’s pricing table lists Astra usage estimates. A listed allowance does not establish that every account or application already displays Astra. |
| Pro and Business ($100 tier) | The model guide describes Astra Power options for eligible accounts, with differences by plan and rollout stage. |
| Enterprise | Initial access also depends on organizational eligibility and administrator enablement. See the Enterprise section below. |
| Free, Go, and Edu | The sources reviewed here do not establish universal Astra access for these plans. Check the current plan and workspace guidance for your account. |
Sources: OpenAI pricing and usage guidance, model controls, and workspace availability.
How to read this: an allowance table describes usage; the picker describes the choices currently offered to you. Our recommendation is to confirm account eligibility before buying a plan specifically for Astra. These sources do not provide an activation date for an individual account.
Match the problem to the next step
Notice exactly what is missing. The next useful check changes depending on whether you cannot find Work, cannot select Astra, or can select it but cannot start a task.
- You cannot find Work
- Start with the official Work setup guide for your application. Make sure you are checking the correct experience before comparing its controls with someone else’s screenshot.
- You see other models, but Astra is missing
- Confirm the active identity and workspace in your profile. In a managed account, ask which product and seat your access covers. The authentication guide explains how these layers differ.
- Astra appears, but you hit a limit
- Check the usage dashboard and the exact reset time or message. Work and Codex share usage. OpenAI’s message estimates vary with task size and model use, so treat them as estimates rather than fixed quotas. Usage and limits.
- It works in one application only
- Compare the account, workspace, and application version before changing settings. OpenAI notes that the desktop app and CLI can ship different Codex versions, so features can arrive at different times. Desktop troubleshooting.
Using Codex CLI? There was a documented picker fix.
OpenAI’s 4 September 2026 changelog says Codex CLI 0.153.4 fixed Astra’s visibility in the bundled model picker. The earlier 0.153.1 entry described API configuration support without showing Astra in that picker. This is a CLI-specific change.
Check your installed version with codex --version. If you are on an older build, update through the official installation route and check again. Updating the interface does not grant account entitlement. Read the official changelog.
Enterprise access may need administrator approval
OpenAI’s initial Enterprise rollout guidance says organizations need Daybreak access before an administrator can enable Astra. It also says Astra is disabled by default for the first two weeks after launch. Administrators in eligible workspaces can enable it for users or groups across Chat, Work, and Codex, subject to product eligibility.
Ask your administrator to check eligibility, your assigned seat, and whether Astra is enabled for your user or group. Choosing a starting model is a separate setting; it does not grant permission to use a model your account cannot access. Official Enterprise access guidance.
ChatGPT access and API access are separate
OpenAI documents two sign-in routes for supported local Codex clients: ChatGPT subscription sign-in and API-key sign-in. API-key usage is billed through the OpenAI Platform, using its API rates. Your sign-in method also determines the controls that apply. Official authentication guidance.
The API model identifier is gpt-6-astra. Its official model page describes capabilities, supported features, pricing, and API rate limits. Finding this identifier in a tutorial does not demonstrate that your account has permission to call it.
For API-key access, check the organization and project associated with the key. Enabling Astra in a ChatGPT workspace does not itself grant API access. OpenAI explains the access boundaries here.
What to do if Astra is still missing
At this point, collect a small set of details that makes the problem easy to investigate. Our suggested checklist is:
- Your subscription or workplace seat and the selected workspace.
- Whether you are using Chat, Work, the desktop app, or Codex CLI.
- The application version, plus the date and time of the issue.
- Which model options appear and the exact wording of any error.
If you use the desktop app, OpenAI documents a feedback route through the slash menu in the message box. For workplace access, share the account and product details with your administrator. Official feedback and troubleshooting guidance.
Our recommendation is to change one thing at a time, then check the result. Record whether a change restored the interface, corrected the account, or resolved an allowance issue. That makes the next conversation with support much more useful than a general report that “GPT-6 is missing.”
